YVES VERMEIRE
Bio//
Yves Vermeire (°1985) is a Belgian composer and pianist.
As a young artist, he has been described as an auspicious arranger by some of the most prominent educators and musical experts in the Belgian jazz scene.
"In search for expression in pure honesty, it has always been my aim to create harmonic material that develops itself naturally" ~ Yves Vermeire.
Vermeires musical journey started by playing the piano and composing his first works at the age of seven. As a teenager, Vermeire started apprehending electric bass as well. After the first three months of being obsessed by the bass guitar, he performed his first gigs with highly educated musicians. Two years later, he appeared on the album 'Dark Glitter' (2008, Shiver Records) with the symphonic Rockband 'Manic Movement' (BE) as a session artist. However, due to a sudden onset of tendinitis, Vermeire had to stop all bass-related activities in 2009 and returned to his first love, the piano.
Once obtaining a scholarship, he graduated from the Jazzstudio in Antwerp with great honors as a pianist and decided to study jazz piano at The Royal Conservatory of Brussels and Ghent. In 2016, Vermeire obtained his University College degree with distinction in Performing Arts - Jazz. As a student, he was mentored by pianist Christian Mendoza and the award winning composer and arranger Michelino Bisceglia. Vermeire participated in many master classes by jazz legends as Jef Neve, Erik Vermeulen, Diederik Wissels, Nathalie Loriers, Andy Laverne, Kenny Werner.
His intensive training resulted over the last years in many performances at highly acclaimed clubs and national festivals, such as Jazz Brugge, Jazz Hoeilaart, Jazzenede festival, Herbakkersfestival, Cultuurmarkt Vlaanderen and Jazz in't Park Ghent.
In March 2016, Vermeire started composing and arranging as the founder and bandleader of ECLECTIV. “The Eclectic Collective” brings modern jazz, combined with funk, cross-over and influences from soul-jazz and classical music. This project enabled him to push boundaries as an arranger and to collaborate with top artists, such as Kimberly Dhondt (Hooverphonic, Evil Empire Orchestra) and Jean-Paul Estiévenart (Urbex, Brussels Jazz Orchestra) for the performance and achievement.
His debut album 'One Heart' has been recorded in December 2018, after a short visit to Cape Town (SA) and was enthusiastically received by the Belgian press and local radio stations.
